Som väntat blev det regn och tråkväder. Detta firades med en sovmorgon! Åtminstone utav undertecknad medans Bo var alldeles för inställd på 0500h och därmed vaknade vid det klockslaget. Regnet höll i sig fram till lunch men därefter gick det ej att stå emot en tur ute i det grå, men ändock regnfria vädret. I flodmynningen jagade en duvhök omkring och skrämde runt på smådoppingar, gräsänder, fläcknäbbsänder m.m. I samtid med dramatiken i flodmynningen, satt en långstjärtad rosenfink och lockade för sig själv som om det regnade…

Ett gäng fläcknäbbsänder (Anas poecilorhyncha zonorhyncha) flyr undan från duvhöken.

Nere på stranden går det nu en hel del kolymasnäppor, varav vissa kan ses med en liten gul flagga kring ena benet. Dessa individer är ringmärkta i västra Australien. Mycket häftigt!

Än så länge verkar det som att nyheterna inte nått Sverige, åtminstone inte i någon större utsträckning, att flera fall utav fågelinfluensa påträffats i området kring Shanghai i Kinas sydöstra hörn. Detta har gjort att kinesiska myndigheter vidtagit snabba åtgärder, innan de fått kontroll och lyckats lokalisera spridningsriskens omfång. Därav har de inplanerade lärgrupperna som skulle komma till Beidaihe, med folk från bland annat just Shanghai, tillsvidare skjutits till framtiden. Detta är självfallet mycket tråkigt då efterfrågan om att få komma till oss i Beidaihe och få delta i utbildning varit mycket stor. Vi hoppas och tror dock på att myndigheterna lyckas få kontroll över situationen, därmed att lärgrupperna får komma till Beidaihe för utbildning. Under tiden kommer vi att arbeta med att utbilda de lokala ringmärkarna och fortsätta samla in material till arbetet kring utbildningsmaterial.

As expected, there was rain and boring weather. This was celebrated with a morning of sleep! At least  for me, while Bo’s inner watch were set to 0500h and woke up at that time. The rain persisted until lunch but then it was impossible to resist a trip out in the gray, but still rain-free weather. In the estuary there was a goshawk chasing around and scared the Little Grebs, Mallards, Spot-billed ducks etc. In contemporary with the drama in the estuary, there was a Long-tailed Rosefinch whom were calling by himself as if it just rained...

Down on the beach, it is now a lot of Great knots, some of which can be seen with a small yellow flag on one of the legs. These individuals are ringed in Western Australia. Very cool!

So far it seems that the news has not reached Sweden, at least not to any great extent, that the number of cases out of bird flu has been found in the area around Shanghai in China's southeastern corner. This has made the Chinese authorities to move quickly, before they gain control and managed to locate the risk for spreading. Hence, the planned groups that would come to Beidaihe, including people from just Shanghai, will be postponed to the future. This is obviously very sad when the demand to come to us in Beidaihe to participate in the educations has been very high. We hope and believe, however, that the authorities manage to get control of the situation, thus the groups gets to Beidaihe for education. In the meantime, we will work to educate the local ringers and continue to gather material for education material.
